Electric Leaf Blowers and the Cost

Why haven’t we gone electric yet? Well there’s many reasons why. Electric leaf blowers are expensive, they’re heavy, and they’re inconvenient. Not to mention all the complications with what we’ll do with our gas leaf blowers once they’re banned.
The expense
Let’s start with the base price for a leaf blower. Surprisingly, electric and gas leaf blowers are about the same, with electric leaf blowers being even a little less sometimes. The average gas backpack leaf blower goes for around $330, while the average electric leaf blower goes for around $150. However, the problem arises with the cost of buying batteries. Batteries take longer to charge than it takes to fill up a container of gas. Therefore, landscaping companies will need to buy multiple batteries so they always have one ready to go, and this is where it gets expensive.
The inconvenience
Electric leaf blowers work a lot worse than gas leaf blowers. Nobody is denying it. They’re much less efficient, and although they’re much lighter than gas leaf blowers—with the average gas leaf blower weighing around 23 pounds and the average electric leaf blower weighing around 8 pounds—they don’t have the same power. A gas leaf blower generates winds of about 200 mph, while an electric leaf blower generates winds of only about 150 mph. This means that electric leaf blowers take a lot longer to get the job done.
There is no solution to these problems. However, there is a solution to climate change, and this is part of it. It will be hard, however it always gets worse before it gets better. It is our fault this planet is dying, and our fate is in our hands, so we need to make a choice. Sacrifice some money and time, or sacrifice everything in 30 years when our planet is burning up.
